AST SpaceMobile shares ended a two-day slide on Tuesday after regulatory filings showed several senior executives retained substantial positions following the vesting of restricted stock awards. The stock had already climbed 12% on Monday, making it the strongest-performing space stock of the session.

Executives retain large ownership stakes

Recent filings showed CEO Abel Avellan, President Scott Wisniewski, CFO Andrew Johnson and Chief Accounting Officer Maya Bernal reported transactions tied to restricted stock unit vesting on May 30. The transactions were not open-market sales. Instead, shares were withheld to cover tax obligations associated with the vested awards.

Avellan reported the withholding of 32,754 shares following the vesting of 83,333 RSUs. After the transaction, he continued to hold 78.5 million Class A shares and 78.2 million exchangeable ASTS common units.

Wisniewski and Johnson each reported withholding 16,377 shares after 41,666 RSUs vested, leaving net vested awards of 25,289 shares apiece. Bernal reported withholding 2,621 shares after 6,666 RSUs vested, resulting in a net vested award of 4,045 shares.

Attention turns to Blue Origin's recovery

The filings arrived as investors continued tracking Blue Origin's recovery efforts following the New Glenn launchpad explosion at Cape Canaveral last week.

Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp said several critical infrastructure components survived the incident, including the propellant farm and liquid oxygen, liquid hydrogen and LNG storage systems. He said the damaged support tower can be repaired and reiterated that New Glenn is expected to return to flight before year-end.

That timeline matters for AST SpaceMobile because New Glenn's third mission last month suffered an upper-stage anomaly that resulted in the loss of the company's BlueBird 7 satellite.

Satellite deployment schedule remains unchanged

AST SpaceMobile has agreements with multiple launch providers and has repeatedly said its deployment plans do not depend on a single company. Alongside Blue Origin, ASTS also works with SpaceX and has described New Glenn as a complement to Falcon 9 launches rather than a replacement.

Earlier this week, ASTS confirmed that BlueBird satellites 8, 9 and 10 had arrived at Cape Canaveral and entered final processing ahead of a Falcon 9 mission expected in mid-June.

Avellan recently said ASTS remains "on target" to deploy 45 satellites this year, with launches expected roughly once per month. Wisniewski also said the company expects "a handful" of launches from both Blue Origin and SpaceX, or equivalent providers, and believes sufficient launch capacity is available to support the deployment plan.

SpaceX IPO remains a major sector focus

The broader space sector is also watching for more details on SpaceX's expected initial public offering, which has reportedly been discussed at a valuation between $1.75 trillion and $1.8 trillion.

Space-related stocks initially moved higher after SpaceX outlined a potential $28.5 trillion total addressable market across launch services, Starlink connectivity and artificial intelligence.

More recently, attention has shifted to the proposed valuation. Morningstar estimated SpaceX's fair value at $780 billion and said the shares appear "overvalued."

What to watch

AST SpaceMobile's near-term story remains centered on satellite deployment progress and launch execution following the loss of BlueBird 7. The expected mid-June Falcon 9 mission carrying BlueBird satellites 8, 9 and 10, along with Blue Origin's effort to return New Glenn to flight before year-end, are the next major milestones. A successful Falcon 9 launch and continued monthly deployment cadence would keep ASTS aligned with its goal of deploying 45 satellites this year. Delays, launch setbacks or a slower recovery for New Glenn would increase pressure on that deployment schedule.
